The new community garden here

at Union Street Baptist Church, is part of the CW2 project, which is about the church and the local community working together, providing help and assistance, where they need it.

The garden was officially opened by the Mayor of Crewe, Cllr Sally Graham, on Saturday 21st June 2025.

The garden will provide a vital outdoor space for the local community, including the groups who use the church, including Rainbows and Brownies, Stroke Survivors Group, T Club and Warm Hub groups, who are all eager to use it.

Cutting the ribbon, the Mayor said:

“I am really pleased to be invited to do this, because I have a passion for community gardens and it is in the name, “community”. We have just heard how the community has come together to make it happen, in the first place, which always warms my heart.

It is an amazing asset to have, because gardening is so good for mental health, which makes the community a healthier place to be. It’s great for bringing people together, it’s community cohesion. It’s great for something just a bit different to invite people to, you can hold all types of events here. A passionate thing and I’m really happy to cut the ribbon and open the Community Garden.”

Our transitional minister, Revd Catriona Gorton, added: This garden has been an extremely rewarding project. We wanted to create a space that everyone could enjoy, a place to connect, reflect, and support one another.

'We’re already hearing how groups are planning to use it, and we hope it becomes a hub of positivity and community spirit for years to come.'

We will be hosting a number of events and other activities throughout the year, keep an eye on our website and social media pages for the latest updates.

Future events this year include Shoes & Brews in aid of Sal's Shoes and St Paul's Centre in Crewe on 16th August at 2pm and Spuds & Smores on 25th October from 6pm.

Don't forget that our free coffee morning every Thursday 10:30-12:00 thanks to the Garden now has outdoor seating too!

Thank you to all who came, supported and shared with us on Saturday and to all who have worked on the development of the Community Garden.
